The Sikri Cotton & Silk scarf was inspired by my most recent voyage in India, where we had the chance to visit the magnificent city of Fatehpur Sikri. I was particularly captivated by the intricate sandstone carvings adorning the walls, especially those of the chamber said to have belonged to Emperor Akbar’s Portuguese wife. Their beauty and craftsmanship left such a strong impression on me that, on the journey back to Lucknow, I could not wait to capture them on canvas and began painting the design in the car. Rich shades of deep red lend the scarf a passionate, regal character, echoing the grandeur and romance of this extraordinary place.
